Emir and Son

I have an interesting history with this character. When I first saw this episode at a child, I didn't like The Emir because I thought he was just a mean grumpypants. I didn't GET how devastating the loss of his son was back then and just saw his sour attitude. As the years went on, and rewatches of the episode as young adult happened, I finally got it. He's broken, he's desperate, he just wants to see his beloved child again. It's amazing that it took ME growing into adulthood to fully understand an episode of a family show. It really does put into perspective that there were layers to the writing. The kids in the intended audience understand ENOUGH to enjoy the show, but the adults are the ones who REALLY get something out of Gargoyles.
